Desi Dobreva is a renowned Bulgarian singer with numerous performances both in her home country and internationally. She was born in the city of Varna into a family of engineers. She graduated from the “Dobri Hristov” School of Arts in Varna with a specialization in classical piano. She holds Master’s degrees in “Pop and Jazz Singing” and “Musicology” from the National Academy of Music “Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia. Additionally, she graduated with highest honors (Summa Cum Laude) from Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, and was listed in The National Dean’s List for 2006–2007.

Desi Dobreva rose to national prominence through her participation as a lead vocalist in the popular Bulgarian TV show Slavi’s Show, where she was selected via a competitive audition. Over the years, she has taken part in numerous collaborative projects with ensembles and artists such as the Representative Guards Wind Orchestra and Bulgarian National Radio; “BalkanSky” and Theodosii Spassov; David Young; Mihail and Kristina Belchev; Valya Balkanska; Ivo Papazov – Ibryama; Ishtar; Jambo Agusev and his orchestra; Iskra Radeva; the Sofia Philharmonic; Sofia Opera and Ballet; the Symphony Orchestra of Bulgarian National Radio; Pleven Philharmonic; “Symphonieta” – Vidin; the folk ensembles “Philip Koutev”, “Bulgare”, “Rodopa”, “Pirin”; Neshka Robeva and the troupe “National Art”; Slavi Trifonov and Ku-Ku Band; Lili Ignatova in the production The Legend; the shows The Comedians, The Voice of Bulgaria, Bulgaria’s Got Talent, Your Face Sounds Familiar, The Masked Singer, Endless Music, The Bulgarian Christmas; and the foundations Our Home Is Bulgaria and Art of Living. She is also the creator of the original project Ludo Mlado, which presents Bulgarian folklore in contemporary arrangements.

Desi has performed on some of the most prestigious stages in Bulgaria and around the world, including: The National Mall (White House, Washington D.C.); Royal Albert Hall (London); Astoria Hall (London); the iconic jazz club The Blue Note (New York); Mann Auditorium (Tel Aviv); Copernicus Theater (Chicago); Harvard University (Boston); Regent Theatre (Boston); Berklee Performance Center (Boston); National Palace of Culture (Sofia); Arena Armeec (Sofia); and Vasil Levski National Stadium (Sofia). She has also performed in Russia, Italy, Germany, France, Austria, Greece, Turkey, Malta, Moldova, Slovakia, Belarus, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Romania, North Macedonia, Switzerland, China, as well as during regular annual tours in the United States and Canada.

Desi Dobreva is the recipient of numerous national and international awards. She has also appeared as an actress and vocalist in productions of the Varna Drama Theatre “Stoyan Bachvarov.” She was the author and host of the three-hour late-night television show Flight Over the Night on Bulgarian National Television (BNT). Together with Associate Professor Valya Manolova, she co-authored a music textbook for early childhood education (2013). In 2021, Desi published her original book Personally and Delicious, which features 87 original recipes accompanied by 87 short personal stories from her life.

As a socially engaged individual, Desi takes pride in being a friend and supporter of UNICEF, the Art of Living Foundation, Our Home Is Bulgaria Foundation, The Temelites–Levski Foundation, and others, actively participating in a wide range of charitable initiatives. She is also the first official Goodwill Ambassador of the “Bulgarian Youth Delegate to the United Nations” campaign.
